August 19: It has been a few weeks since I’ve written a blog. I just have not had any energy or motivation to do much of anything. For someone who has always worked hard, been busy and on the go, it’s not easy doing very little. Then typical me started feeling guilty, like I should be doing something productive and meaningful. Screeeeech!! That was me hitting the brakes on that old way of thinking. Then I reminded myself that part of healing on this journey means new ways of thinking and doing…or not doing. My body and mind are going through a lot. So, I whole heartedly give myself permission to rest as often and as much as needed. Which has been a lot lately.
During this mellow time of solitude, I am reminded of Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God”. Be still. Be. Still. That’s when we best hear the voice of Spirit, and our own inner voice. We need regular times of solitude, away from the busyness and noise of life. It’s vital to our well-being, and to spiritual and personal growth. I have always treasured my alone time, especially if it’s outdoors. What about you? Are you taking time on a regular to seek out quiet and solitude? Are you nurturing the needs of your soul? Do you enjoy your own company? How well do you really know yourself?
Socrates' phrase "Know Thyself" emphasizes the importance of self-knowledge as the foundation for acquiring other knowledge. He believed that individuals often lack understanding of concepts due to their lack of self-knowledge. By understanding oneself, Socrates argued that one can gain a better understanding of others and the world.
